The quality of food plays a crucial role which is directly concerned with every individual. The food quality gets affected by the internal factors like microbial, chemical, physical and external factors like shape, taste, texture, color, size which must be appropriate to get appreciated in terms of health safety issues. Any form of contamination denies the use of that product to maintain safer medical conditions and nutritional requirements. From the last few decades, the ways to characterize food quality has undergone diverse changes. With the rise of economic standards of people in the world, the demand of production of processed food has caused quality testing of the food products.
Purpose of mobile food testing labs
The plan is to examine the quality of food articles, including milk, milk products, oil and water, in view of increasing concerns on the flood of adulterated food articles from neighboring states.
Mobile food testing labs-Preliminary testing
“There is no comparison between mobile testing labs and highly sophisticated
dedicated food safety labs. Only preliminary examination of samples is
possible there. But, we will get first round results faster at the mobile
labs,
The samples, found to be having high degree of adulteration, would be sent
to the nearby dedicated food safety labs for detailed examination.
Such a facility would facilitate gradual decrease in flow of
adulterated and sub-standard food products from other states, he added.
The vehicles bringing vegetables from other states have also got to register
themselves under the Food Safety and Quality Act.
These MFTL will be fully functional, equipped with all basic facilities and the
required quick testing instruments and rapid diagnostic kits for detection of
adulteration in various food samples particularly, Milk and Milk products, Edible
Fats and oils, Water, Spices etc.
The main aim of launching the mobile food testing lab is to check adulteration
in milk and related products, ghee, spices, etc. Besides, experts will also make
people aware about how to differentiate original food items from adulterants.
